    It is one of the first trees to flower each year. I have noticed a number of dead redbuds in central Iowa. We had a lot of fruit trees growing up (13, to be exact) & a lot of them ended up getting sick & dying. This is when the sun heats up the cells on the southwest side of the tree, causing water to build up. I've been told that I cannot plant another tree where this one was and have to be at least 7 feet away from where the trunk of the older redbud was.
